Spearheaded unprecedented 15-year growth . As COO and Co-Chief Investment Officer, t ransformed Putnam Investments from below average firm into world class investment powerhouse whose motto was “There is nothing we can't do.” Grew assets under management from $11B to $420B and profits from $29M to $2B.

Drove five-year record investment performance. Putnam investment performance was middling at best. Asked to assume co-investment officer role. Analyzed and modified compensation system to better incentivize sales team. Reassigned portfolio managers to optimize talent utilization. Identified and reduced excessive expenses.

Achieved industry-best service provider status ten years running. Putnam was lowest ranked provider of services in industry. Defined corporate vision and culture for excellence. Identified and resolved three key issues that significantly increased productivity and customer satisfaction. Won ten consecutive Dalbar awards.

Targeted cash management initiatives to increase performance 20% . Portfolio returns were lackluster. Identified standby LOC fees and lack of float as primary contributors. Established and obtained regulatory approval for intra-fund lending to eliminate bank fees. Negotiated overnight float of undistributed assets to generate income.

Introduced state-of-the-art technology to cut costs . Paper generation and management were costly. Sourced digital image processing alternatives. Obtained designation as one of only three organizations worldwide to partner with IBM in new technology use. Installed $15M of equipment. Achieved 125% ROI in 18 months.

Led crisis management efforts to stem shutdown . Electrical disaster required firm to vacate headquarters and data center. Relocated 350 employees and re-established computer systems overnight. OCC, SEC and PWC validated that firm processed $1B of net new sales daily without single problem during 40-day temporary status.


Career History


Managing Partner , RFL Investments, 2000-Present. Led investment and management team in sourcing, acquiring, operating and selling two restaurants, limousine service, bottled water producer and construction company.

COO /Sr. Managing Director/Co-Investment Officer , Putnam Investments, 1988-2000. Managed all aspects of firm, including accounting/finance, operations, real estate, sales/marketing and legal. Responsible for equity investments for two years. Grew assets under management 3800%, profits 6800% and staff 2850%.

President , Putnam Investor Services, 1986-1988. Led all back office operations, portfolio accounting, custody and all data processing (IT). Recruited in 1985 as Sr. VP. Managed budgets to $95M.
